John Killick

Background information

picture of John  I was a teacher for 30 years, in further, adult and prison education, but have written all my life. I went freelance as a writer in 1989. I worked as a writer in residence in a women's prison and a hospice before settling on work with older people. For the past decade I have concentrated on writing with people with dementia.

For 10 years I ran my own small press: Littlewood . I was a founder member, first secretary, and subsequently a chairperson of the National Association of Writers in Education. I worked hard to put Prison Writing on the agenda of the Arts Council. I have been a keen supporter of LAPIDUS since its inception.

In recent years I have been writing for 'The North' (www.poetrybusiness.co.uk) and I have also begun writing for 'Quattrocento' (www.quattrocento.co.uk).

I have given numerous readings, run one-day workshops and residential courses, and contributed to many conferences. I have also made a number of broadcasts.

Much of my writing in prose and verse reflects my interests, as enumerated above. On other pages you can read some of my poems and sample my prose.
